We aim to implement solutions to reduce emissions throughout our supply chain by leveraging new technology and collaborating with business partners.
Supply Chain Emissions
As a retailer, the vast majority of our environmental impact occurs within our supply chain. Approximately 94% of our total greenhouse gas emissions are generated upstream and downstream through the sourcing, production, transportation, and distribution of the products we sell. These emissions - classified as Scope 3 under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol - represent our greatest opportunity for meaningful climate action.
We continue to work closely with vendors, logistics partners, and other stakeholders to reduce our overall footprint. By strengthening supplier relationships and leveraging innovative technologies, we aim to drive responsible practices across every stage of our value chain. Our approach goes beyond compliance; we are committed to embedding sustainability into the way we operate and collaborate with partners to accelerate progress.
What We Have Achieved So Far
- Implemented a Scope 3 greenhouse gas accounting platform to measure and monitor carbon emissions across material categories.
- Collected internal data on the Scope 3 categories most material to our business operations.
- Adopted a spend-based methodology to estimate emissions where supplier-specific data is not yet available.
- Completed third-party verification of our 2023 Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventory to ensure accuracy.
Our Ongoing Commitments
- Supplier engagement: Collaborating with strategic suppliers to improve data accuracy, transparency, and reporting consistency.
- Hybrid measurement: Developing a blended approach that combines supplier-specific data for priority vendors with spend-based estimates for the wider network.
- Supplier support: Providing resources, training, and tools to help suppliers improve calculations & reduce emissions within their own operations and value chains.
